The Best Bike Lock on a Budget: Abus U-Mini 401 Bike Lock
The U-Mini 401 ‘D’ lock is an affordable bike lock from the German brand ABUS. Despite being a German brand the lock itself is manufactured in Taiwan, but don’t let that put you off, this is a very substantial piece of kit.
In terms of security, the ABUS U-Mini 401 has a 14mm special steel hardened shackle (16mm including the protective coating) and double deadbolt locking mechanism, meaning a thief needs to break both sides of the shackle to steal your bike.
The lock itself is coated to prevent damaging your bikes paint and weighs in at 1.06 kg making it the lightest lock here. You will probably want to equip this lock with a security cable for convenience.
The ABUS U-Mini 401 lock is supplied with 4 keys but unfortunately, there isn’t a replacement key service like with the higher end ABUS models. The lock also doesn’t come with a frame mount, but we recommend keeping your lock in your bag anyway.
TheABUS U-Mini 401 lock is a little more compact that other listed here which can be a little annoying if your locking your bike to a bulky object, but on the plus, this also makes the lock more resistant to leverage.
Finally,ABUS U-Mini 401 lock has been awarded the Bicycle Gold rating from Sold Secure.
